“He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.” — Psalm 18:19
Feeling hurried, pressured or burnt out?
There is a better way to live.
Be Still Movement is a Christ-centred movement of women reclaiming strength and peace — redeeming body, mind and spirit through movement, breath and biblical meditation.
We exist to create spaces where women, in particular, can build physical strength, find inner calm and reconnect with themselves, with God and with others in the midst of busy, demanding lives.
Finding a spacious place
Many women long for a life that feels calm, unhurried and deeply rooted – yet modern life rarely allows space to slow down. I know this longing well, because I have lived it, searched for it in hard seasons, and found it in ways that transformed how I live and relate to God.
As a busy mum of three, a pastor’s wife, and someone shaped by the pressure of work and constant achievement, discovering a more spacious way of living has been life-giving. It has helped me to:
Feel more centred and resilient amidst stress
Gain perspective in the daily grind
Connect more deeply with God
Grow in strength, peace and spiritual grounding
This spacious place is not only emotional or spiritual – it is embodied. It is something we enter through movement, breath and attentive presence to God and his Word.
The space I found … is on the mat
Alongside my Christian faith, yoga-inspired practices have helped me navigate chronic stress, anxiety, burnout, depression, insomnia, an eating disorder and the pressures of everyday life.
Through these embodied practices, my body grew stronger, my mind steadied, and my prayer life deepened. I encountered God not only through words and ideas, but through stillness, breath, movement and biblical meditation – experiencing his presence in body, mind and spirit.
Over time, I became aware of a tension many Christians feel: a deep need for rest, strength and embodied wellbeing, paired with hesitation about yoga because of legitimate concerns over its association with Eastern philosophy.
Why I founded Be Still Movement
This tension led me to create Be Still Movement in 2000 – which is now a registered Australian non-profit.
My desire was to offer a safe, Christ-centred space where women (and others) could experience the proven physical and mental benefits of movement, breathing techniques and mindfulness, without compromising Christian faith.
Be Still Movement was founded as a response to hurry, pressure and disconnection – and as an invitation into a more embodied, attentive way of living with God.
What we practise
At Be Still Movement, our classes intentionally integrate:
Strength-building, yoga-inspired movement
Breath awareness and mindful attention
Biblical meditation and reflection
Stillness and silence during relaxation
Together, these practices help fill the mind and heart with God’s Word and create space to encounter his presence – not just intellectually, but in an embodied way.
Our movement is physically engaging and strength-building, with options that allow both beginners and experienced participants to practise confidently, safely and without pressure.
A gentle, accessible invitation
Be Still Movement is:
Bible-based and Christ-centred
Theologically sound (not syncretistic or New Age)
Warm, welcoming and beginner-friendly
A place where strength and peace are both experienced
For women who are curious about faith but unsure about church, Be Still Movement offers biblical wisdom gently – without confrontation or expectation. For those intimidated by exercise or yoga culture, we provide a supportive, non-competitive environment where every body is honoured and movement is adapted with care.
While our classes are designed primarily with women in mind, men are also warmly welcome.
All Be Still Movement teachers are professionally trained and equipped to support participants with care, attentiveness and respect for the body God has given them.
